Activities for Non-Golfers

Activities for Non-Golfers

We’re adding Racquetball to the list of alternate activities this year. Please don’t hesitate to ask if there is something you’d like added to the afternoon’s choices!  In addition to Racquetball we’re bringing back Tennis, Pickleball, a Tour of the Denver and surrounding area sites and of course the fun game of Texas Hold’em Poker!

THE TOUR and suggested Tour Sites:
We’ve chosen to begin the tour at 11 a.m. from the St. Frances Cabrini (SFC) parking lot.  We’ll head out the Denver Capitol Building for a noon tour – it’s an amazing building with history dating back to the early 1900’s and yes that really is gold on top of that Dome!  From there we go one block east to the Cathedral Basilica for a 1:15 pm tour. The Cathedral dates back to that same time period of the very early 1900’s and has the most stained glass windows of any building in the U.S.A. (or at least held the record in that department for some 50 odd years). We head next to Coors Field for a 1 hour tour to begin at 3pm, returning to SFC by 4:45 in time for appetizers, drinks and then a home-cooked Italian dinner!

Texas Hold’em is always fun if you are willing to learn a new card game!  The first half hour is always spent bringing old hands up to date and teaching new card players the intricacies of the game!  We’ll have a professional dealer on hand starting at 1 pm for the brave few who know the cards or who might not know them but love to have fun learning!

Now for the more athletic games! The following sports activities will be played at South Suburban Parks & Recreation (SSPR), 3325 W. Oxford Ave, Sheridan, 80236, a 15 minute drive from SFC parking lot.

Tennis is returning this year and we intend to have a pro again this year on hand to teach you some more skills and run the tournament!  Tennis will start at 1.

Racquetball is being added to the fun this year!  Those games start at 1 as well.

Pickleball returns with much enthusiasm! Bobby will be there to guide you and get you started on your journey to the Pickleball Championship! This game truly has to be experienced to be appreciated.  Bobby taught us in our church gym (the other name for our Parish Hall at SFC when we’re not dining in it) on one lunch hour. It is SO MUCH FUN you have to just get in the game to find out and this is your opportunity.  Lay men and women are invited to play, in fact urged to do so! It is four to a court and we have reserved 3 courts!
